Sam open failure

When I loaded the disk every thing was fine until we got to the resetting Sam user account password (step 3 of 4) page. Now a window pops up saying SAM open failure: unsupported SAM session key format. What does that mean? Please help!!! I can't loose my information on this computer :(

RE: Sam open failure

You're talking about Reset Windows Password, right? Well, the error usually indicates that the program cannot read SAM file because its format, structure or encryption is unknown/corrupted. I guess your version of the program is outdated and you're trying to reset a password for Windows 10 Anniversary Update or Creators Update. The newer versions of Windows 10 use encryption scheme that is unsupported by older versions of RWP. Just update it using the link that was sent to you in your registration e-mail.

RE: Sam open failure

I mean that after the program's purchase you should recieve a registration email with the link. Just use this link to download the latest version. Note however that the program comes with one year of free updates only since the date of purchase.

If recovery does not work:

Reset your Windows 10 local account password
  • Select the Reset password link on the sign-in screen. If you use a PIN instead, see PIN sign-in issues. If you're using a work device that's on a network, you may not see an option to reset your password or PIN.

  • Answer your security questions.

  • Enter a new password.

  • Sign in as usual with the new password.

Regards,
Caleb
